Amazing Floating Boat Bridge

Mw018701

Commuters cross the Buriganga River on a floating boat bridge in Dhaka, Bangladesh. When rampant-growing water hyacinth prevented boats from moving freely on the river, a group of boatmen came up with a bright idea. They made this floating bridge by connecting 34 wooden dinghies together and are charging a small fee to cross. Creative work!

Say-NO-to-Photoshop-Do-Forced-Perspectives-motuh

Aren’t you tired of all those digitally modified photoshopped pictures? Nowadays you can’t believe even your friend who’s showing his newest photos from his trip to Egypt, because all those photos might be photoshopped. It’s a scary world we’re living in – full of lies, sins and photoshopped images. But things can be different. There are brave people who said NO to Photoshop and did everything in an old fashioned way. Enjoy this little collection of Forced Perspectives and creative photo artworks, and send me more if you have.

Delirious or Delusional? Garden of Earthly Delights

garden-of-delights-17

The Garden of Earthly Delights is a triptych painted by the early Netherlandish master Hieronymus Bosch (c. 1450–1516). The center image depicts the expansive “garden” landscape which gives the triptych its name. The garden is teeming with male and female figures, together with a variety of animals, plants and fruit.  Fantastic creatures mingle with the real; otherwise ordinary fruits appear engorged to a gigantic size. The figures are engaged in diverse amorous sports and activities, both in couples and in groups. Gibson describes them as behaving “overtly and without shame”, while art historian Laurinda Dixon writes that the human figures exhibit “a certain adolescent se*ual curiosity”.

The numerous human figures revel in an innocent, self-absorbed joy as they engage in a wide range of activities: some enjoy se*ual pleasures, others play unselfconsciously in the water, and yet others cavort in meadows with a variety of animals, seemingly at one with nature. In the middle of the background, a large blue globe resembling a fruit pod rises in the middle of a pond.

The Ghosts of Old London

old-london-25

To dispel my disappointment that I cannot rent that Room to Let in Old Aldgate, I find myself returning to scrutinize the collection of pictures taken by the Society for Photographing the Relics of Old London held in the archive at the Bishopsgate Institute. It gives me great pleasure to look closely and see the loaves of bread in the window and read the playbills on the wall in this photograph of a shop in Macclesfield St in 1883. The slow exposures of these photographs included fine detail of inanimate objects, just as they also tended to exclude people who were at work and on the move but, in spite of this, the more I examine these pictures the more inhabited they become. Graffiti Animals in Street Life

animals-in-street-life-01

Roa lives and works in Ghent, Belgium. Roa’s fine draftsmanship sets him above other street artists and I particularly admire the vivid sense of life that he imparts to his creatures, which transfix you with their wide eyes. The anatomical detail of these animals is lovingly achieved, yet they are unsentimental portraits of feral beasts that demand respect, resisting our simple affection. Their looming scale and piercing gaze can be challenging – charged with tension, their eyes always follow you. Similarly, any human figure you see in the vicinity of these paintings unavoidably exists in relation to them, a measure of their fierce intensity.
