famous-as-super-girls-02

Supergirl is a female counterpart to the DC Comics Superman. As his cousin, she shares his super powers and vulnerability to Kryptonite. She was created by writer Otto Binder and designed by artist Al Plastino in 1959. She first appeared in the Action Comics comic book series and later branched out into animation, film, television, and merchandising. In May 2011, Supergirl placed 94th on IGN’s list of the Top 100 Comic Book Heroes of All Time. Here we created collection of photographs of famous beauties as super girls. Crossover Photographs by Daniel Völker

crossover-photographs-06

The term Crossover refers to the idea of combining two different genres with each other. This series creates a dialogue between a famous historical painting and a modern sensual photograph. However, the concept does not merely entail the combination of different genres of art. The artist takes up the painter’s concept and tries to incorporate the situation displayed in the painting into a story. What results is the Crossover series. Daniel Völker tries to grasp the painter’s actual fantasy. He frees the historical painting from all taboos to reveal the actual idea the painter may have had and the thus connected sensuality. As the photograph describes the painter’s dream or fantasy, it is displayed blurred. Both worlds – the painter’s restrained fantasy and his actual desire – melt into a new piece of art. This way, the painter’s idea is transferred to modern times.

Assemblages Which Will Demand Your Attention

assemblages-17

Colombian born artist Federico Uribe must have a great deal of patience, in addition to his obvious load of talent. He began his career as a painter and then evolved to using found objects and industrial items in his work, creating assemblages that simply demand your rapt attention.
In his Torso series screws, coins, keyboard keys, dominoes, padlocks, paperclips and more form to create human torsos. Items like shoelaces and colored pencils are expertly assembled to create what look like paintings from afar, when what they really are is sculpture. This artisan, who now lives and works in Miami, creates pieces for private and public collections as well as commercial and personal applications.

Chilling Underwater Series by Erin Mulvehill

chilling-underwater-series-17

Erin Mulvehill is a young photographer based in Brooklyn, who graduated with a BS honors degree in photography from Syracuse University. Unlike many modern photographers, she shoots on analog 35mm film (she scans the negatives to do post-processing in Photoshop). In this post you’ll see the breath-taking photos captured in her Underwater, to be reborn series, which has been dedicated to the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The Underwater series includes images of what resembles girls trapped under ice, frozen in time. The photos are chilling and hauntingly beautiful. There are twenty four images in the series, with at least a dozen different models. The idea for the series, according to Erin, came to her in a dream. And despite appearances, the photos were shot in a studio, not underwater.

Aerials Series by Hans Strand

19

In his photographs Hans Strand explores the world’s landscapes, from arctic glaciers to oceans, deserts and lava fields right up to tropical rain forests. The nature’s obvious beauty though, which we generally associate with flowery meadows, is not to his interest. In fact, his mostly abstract compositions bare a scenic complexity, which lets the observer directly experience the rampant and pure nature. In most cases Strand’s photos are high-angle shots, a perspective which – except of the view in an aeroplane – remains concealed to the common population. Due to the change of perspective the picture´s abstraction already develops on a first level. Besides the boundless vastness, Hans Strand’s photos are able to demonstrate the surface structure’s variety. Many shown texture can’t be identified accurately, so the whole purpose is the demonstration of a naturally abstract surface design, which cannot be imitated by humans. Nature is unique and not replaceable.
